Independent Age is calling for a commission into the future of health and social care that:

  • is independent and has cross party support
  • looks not just one or five years into the future, but to the kind of health and care services we want to have in 20, 30 or 50 years’ time
  • listens to a wide range of voices, including health professionals and people who use our health and care services.

Great health and care services help us all live better lives and remain independent for longer as we get older. We must act now to make sure that our NHS and care services can meet the needs of our ageing population – now and for generations to come.

Meet Freda

Freda, 86, was discharged from hospital following a hip operation to find that no plans had been made for the care she needed at home. Because of this, she was forced to spend all her time sitting in a straight backed chair in her kitchen: the only place in her home that she could access.

Find out more about Freda’s story in our campaign film.
